Why, Ebay? Why?

I saw a baby Bjorn carrier at the thrift store today and looked it up when I got home to see how much it sells for it. No way was I paying the $20 the store was asking but I was curious just the same.

Apparently it is the BABY BJORN ACTIVE INFANT CARRIER LUMBAR SUPPORT  and is worth about $120 brand new. Well, this one looked new but without a box. They resale fairly well and some for as much as $100 new & $30+ used.

But here is the catch:

Check out these sales:

This one started at .99 cents with free shipping and never sold.

It started out at $9.99, had $10 shipping, less of a title, and sold after 13 bids for $53

The difference? I don’t know. The stock photo maybe? I know that makes me feel more confident when I’m bidding, even if I know it was used…silly, I know but we all like to buy items that look like they came from a department store!

Oh, and the auctions closed 5 days apart.

So should I go invest $20 and hope it sales for $50+? I don’t know. I think I might just wait and see if it goes on sale next week, but I doubt it. It was really nice and pretty obvious where it was on the rack.

Oh, the choices when one resells!

  1. Hmm..interesting. I personally probably wouldn't invest the $20 unless I did a BIN. I did a classic carrier recently and sold it for $20 BIN and I was happy with my return. Although I paid around a buck for it. With Ebay these days..who knows!

  2. Lol, every time I invest time and $$ on something that was a sure thing for someone, the buzz is suddenly over.

  3. Good point Christine and Kim!
I think I will sit on it and if it goes on sale I can get it for 99 cents or at most $10. It is worth $10 even if I just keep it to use or regift. I doubt it will still be there but won't hurt to look!

  4. Keep in mind that there's a recall on these. But, there's an easy fix. You have to check if its included in the recall or not. If it is, all you have to do is send away for the piece that can make the carrier safer.

I only sell the ones NOT included in the recall. Much easier.
That may help you decide whether to spend the money or not.

And i would probably only do fixed price. The auction scene is not the same as it once was, IMHO.
